The International Beethoven Project is deeply committed to being active and engaged in making our world a better place to live. Beethoven was himself deeply committed to the welfare of Mankind, and had very lofty ideals about finding peace on Earth. As a child of the Enlightenment and of the ideals of the French Revolution, Beethoven truly believed in the inherent goodness of Mankind, and in the necessity of Liberty and Equality among all peoples to reach the Elysium of perfect harmony and peace. It is in this spirit that we engage ourselves in the best ways that we can, to make our contribution toward what we believe to be important ways of using art and music to improve our world.
We are thus creating an International Beethoven Project Charity Fund, which we will fund in part by taking a portion of performance proceeds from any of our performance groups and activities, in order to fund future musical events for audiences deprived of access to classical music (from schools in poor neighborhoods, to detention centers, and places around the world that have absolutely no contact with great live classical music). This fund will also serve to send educational materials, from recordings, to books and films, dealing with topics around Beethoven and classical music in general, to schools, libraries and other places where little or no funding for music exists.
There are many other ways in which we would like to develop this fund, and your help is needed, whether it be in ideas, in time, or in financial support.
